The Academy is seeking a Director of Human Resources to manage all phases of the employment lifecycle. This position reports directly to the President and is a year-round full-time position, which requires schedule flexibility and ability to work as needed outside of core hours.

Responsibilities

As a sole HR practitioner, the HR Director routinely pivots throughout the day from consultative, strategic business partner to hands-on HR activities.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Handle all talent acquisition activities and processes and new-hire onboarding
  • Handle all employee offboarding activities and processes
  • Create and maintain job descriptions to ensure all are up to date and compliant with all local, state and federal laws
  • Conduct internal investigations into issues and conflicts and facilitate resolutions
  • Provide strategic and consultative support to Administration, Faculty and Staff
  • Ensure the organization is compliant with local, state and federal laws
  • Ensure all HR policies are up-to-date and are interpreted and applied consistently
  • Counsel on performance management issues
  • Partner with the President and Administration to ensure strategic HR goals are aligned with Academy initiatives
  • Maintain HR systems and processes
  • Maintain employment records and organizational charts
  • Partner with the Business Office to administer benefits (renewals, enrollment, employee assistance), Faculty employment agreements, and compensation analyses and adjustments
  • Manage the annual employee engagement survey process

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related area;
  • 7+ years’ Human Resources generalist experience including 4+ years managing the Human Resources function
  • Knowledge of a broad range of human resource strategies and practices, including compensation, health & welfare benefits, leaves administration, retirement plan administration, talent acquisition and management, and employee relations; demonstrated ability to apply these strategies and practices in compliance with employment regulations
  • Specialized training and thorough knowledge of local, federal and state employment laws and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive employee and Academy information with a high level of confidentiality and discretion
  • Demonstrated ability to create and sustain a culture of diversity, inclusivity, collaboration and teamwork
  • Strong interpersonal, rapport-building skills across all levels in an organization
  • Exceptional judgment, problem-solving and independent decision-making skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills with a demonstrated ability to make effective presentations to the senior leadership team, Board of Directors, and large employee groups
  • Strong analytical skills and experience using data to guide strategic employment planning
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google suites
  • Hands-on experience with Paycom or similar HRIS

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or other relevant Master’s degree
  • HR certification (e.g., HRCI PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP, etc.)
  • HR management experience in an educational organization and/or non-profit environment
