For more than 60 years the Johnson County Park & Recreation District (JCPRD) has been enhancing the lives of the citizens of Johnson County through its parks, quality programs, professionalism and response to developing trends.  JCPRD’s contributions to the personal lives of Johnson County’s citizens have earned us local appreciation and national acclaim including receiving the National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in 2017.  In 2020, JCPRD recorded more than 8 million park visitors and over 2 million recreation participations in over 4,000 programs. 

Due to an upcoming retirement, JCPRD is seeking a proven Personnel Coordinator who enjoys working in a fast-paced, high profile, and progressive environment to join its Gold Medal Team as JCPRD continues unprecedented growth through the development of new parks, trails, recreation facilities, programs and events. Because of our comprehensive in-house wellness programs, the insurance premiums for two of our three medical plans actually DECREASED for employees in 2021, with no plan design changes!

This position operates as a true HR Generalist and manages employment functions such as maintenance of hard copy and electronic personnel records, data entry and maintenance of information in the Oracle database, oversight of compliance with JCPRD’s onboarding practices including coordination of new employee orientation, administration of the annual merit increase process, oversight of the Pillars of Performance and Development (PPD employee management system) process, unemployment claims processing, special projects as assigned and overall JCPRD policy & legal compliance.  This position also acts as a back-up to the HR Manager on Employee Relations issues and policy interpretation questions, as well as backs-up the Benefits Coordinator on benefits program administration issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Requirements:

Required – Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Communications, or other related field of study. Experience may be substituted for education.

Professional Experience:

Required: 3 years related experience working with general functions within the Human Resources field. Exceptional computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Experience with governmental forms and working in a governmental/public sector environment preferred.

Required Skills:

Detail oriented and customer service focus. Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities at the same time. Accurate data entry and recordkeeping skills. Works with and maintains confidential information. Works with staff and supervisors to facilitate onboarding and legal compliance related to new hire paperwork. Excellent communication and organizational skills.  Ability to interpret and communicate HR policies and compliance requirements. Requires computer aptitude and working knowledge of basic office equipment operations including secure fax machines, scanners and Microsoft office suite of products. Ability to communicate with all levels of staff, solve problems, manage projects and train other staff is required. Ability to work independently and as a team.

Must pass education, driving and criminal history background checks.

Screening:

Attention to detail. Strong customer service focus. Good data entry and project management skills. Understanding of employment laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, FMLA, ADA, ACA, etc… Ability to work cooperatively with other departments (i.e., Finance, Marketing & Communications, IT, etc…). Interest and ability in cross-training with Benefits Coordinator. Strong team skills. Small and large group presentation skills.

Beginning Salary:  $1,637.60 – 1,926.40 Bi-week (DOQ)Desired Starting Date:  2/22/2021
