Manager, Human Resources – Manufacturing Operations – SPX Cooling Technologies

This position’s primary purpose is to handle human resources issues related to plant operations. Key responsibilities include providing guidance regarding personnel management and any issues related to manufacturing employees, including discipline, discharge, staffing, and training, as well as overseeing the onboarding and hiring processes. Additional responsibilities include actively managing all labor agreements and coordinating any activities related to workforce reductions. This role is responsible for
ensuring compliance with HIPAA, FLSA, and other labor laws, as well as ensuring that labor costs remain at an acceptable and competitive level, and preventing work stoppages. The incumbent also periodically
reviews the associate guidelines and recommends policy additions and revisions. Success in this role requires substantial experience in a manufacturing setting, outstanding communication skills, and strong
capabilities in problem identification and solving. The successful incumbent maintains a good working relationship with employees and provides timely and accurate responses to employees’ questions.

Activities/Tasks/Scope

  • Business partner with the Americas Operations organization in strategic planning, tactical management planning, and effective implementation of processes and programs
  • Manage human resources activities for manufacturing employees in both union and non-union areas
  • Oversee recruiting initiatives for the Operations employees
  • Work with Safety Manager to ensure compliance among employees
  • Serve as company representative in labor negotiations including the development of strategy and communication
  • Actively manage all labor agreements via hands-on grievance involvement
  • Coach managers and employees on various employee relations, compliance and policy issues
  • Develop and utilize tools and processes to ensure a culture to support a learning knowledge based organization with a continuous improvement process methodology
  • Oversee work of and delegate tasks and assignments to HR Generalist, Recruiter and Receptionist
  • Develop programs, processes and policies for Operations employees
  • Lead training initiatives for the construction managers and employees
  • Maintain control of labor costs at an acceptable and competitive level
  • Take all necessary actions to avoid work stoppages
  • Assist in all activities and communications related to reductions in force
  • Periodically review and recommend policy additions and revisions for associate guidelines as they apply to manufacturing employees
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in industrial or labor relations, business administration, or another related field
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • 7 to 10 years of progressive labor relations/human resources experience required
  • Manufacturing experience in union and non-union settings strongly preferred

Certification/Other Skills and Abilities

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience working with an HRIS system
  • Knowledge of HR laws (e.g. FMLA, FLSA, HIPAA, etc.) required
  • PHR or SPHR certification helpful
